Die Vorderseite zeigt in ornamentaler Gestaltung den Schriftzug „FÜNF DEUTSCHE MARK“ sowie eine große stilisierte Ziffer 5 in einem Rosettenmuster; die Rückseite wiederholt das Motiv mit zwei kleineren Ziffern-5-Rosetten und dem Warnhinweis vor Fälschung. Beide Seiten sind ohne Personenporträt rein ornamental gestaltet, mit Wellenlinienmuster (Guilloche) als Sicherheitsmerkmal.
